Substance Abuse & Addictive Disorder Services
The qualified and professional staff at Central Iowa Psychological Services know that recovery from substance abuse and other addictive disorders is possible to achieve and maintain. With respect for the diversity of individual needs and life circumstances, treatment is customized to fit each person.
It is understood that addictions affect whole families, and our clinicians are prepared to assist in the recovery of both the individual and his or her family. Our approach to treatment is collaborative, and we welcome client participation in 12 step programs and other community based resources that provide support.
Clients entering our program can expect to benefit from a variety of therapeutic approaches designed to target their individual needs. Our skilled clinicians utilize cognitive-behavioral therapy, interpersonal process, motivational interviewing, experiential methods, acceptance commitment therapy, and educational materials to assist clients in the process of recovery and relapse prevention.
Clients will explore and learn to manage underlying emotional and situational causes that perpetuate their addictive behaviors. Through the dynamic relationships experienced in group, or within individual counseling relationships, clients will heal interpersonal pain and improve communication skills in a safe and supportive environment.
Family therapy may also be included as part of the overall treatment plan. The CIPS program includes the use of the MEE Journal System from the Change Company, as well as other written materials or interactive writing projects tailored to meet the needs of each individual.
All addiction services are provided by licensed and certified professionals, and CIPS is licensed by the Iowa Department of Public Health to treat both adolescents and adults.
