From the clinicians and staff at Central Iowa Psychological Services
- Don’t be afraid to “shop around” and meet with different therapists in order to decide the best fit
- Therapy is not just for extreme issues, it is helpful for any life challenge
- There is no timeframe; you may find that your issue is worked through within a few visits, or ongoing therapy may be best for you
- It isn’t a quick fix in session; you have to do the work outside of therapy
- It’s challenging and brings up tough emotions, but so, so worth it
- Your therapist can be a wonderful and compassionate coach and / or guide but true change and Lasting change starts and always exists within ourselves
- You are a whole, complete, and amazing Wonder that Lives light years beyond any diagnostic label you may receive as part of your therapeutic Journey
- Check with your insurance to find out coverage so there are no “surprises”
- For testing: be prepared to explain why your doctor has referred you for testing/ what diagnosis they are seeking to confirm or rule out
- Always keep in mind that part of the success in therapy is the relationship with your therapist. If it does not feel like a good fit, address that and if need be, don’t be afraid to ask for a referral. A good therapist should be willing to help you find someone who may be a better fit
